Editorial Policy

Last updated: October 2026

You may use what you read on WalletWiseEU to make decisions about your money, so we hold ourselves to clear rules. This page explains how we research, check, update and correct our articles, and how we use AI tools.

What we cover

Practical personal finance for readers in the UK and Europe: saving money, budgeting, banking, energy bills, benefits, mortgages and everyday money decisions. We explain things in plain language. We are not financial advisers, we are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, and nothing here is personal financial, tax or legal advice.

How we research

We start from primary sources: government departments, regulators such as the Financial Conduct Authority, Ofgem and the Bank of England, EU institutions, and official statistics. We prefer these to news summaries and to other blogs.

How we check facts

  • Every figure that can change (a rate, a limit, a date, a threshold) is checked against the official source before an article is published.
  • We link to those official sources at the end of the article, in an “Official sources” box, so you can check them yourself.
  • When a number is an estimate, we say so and say whose estimate it is.
  • Every article shows the date it was published and the date it was last updated.
  • Some articles are reviewed by a qualified person. When that happens, the article says “Fact-checked by” with their name.

How we keep articles up to date

Money rules change often. We review our articles regularly and update the existing article instead of publishing a duplicate. When we make a meaningful update, the “Last updated” date changes. If an article covers a particular tax year or price period, it says which one.

Corrections

If you think something is wrong, please tell us through our contact form with the link to the article and what you think is incorrect. We check it against the official source and fix confirmed mistakes. For a significant mistake, we say what was wrong and when it was corrected.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help with research, structure and first drafts. AI does not publish anything on its own. Every article is read, fact-checked against official sources and edited by a person before it goes live, and a person is responsible for what we publish. AI tools can make mistakes, which is why every figure is checked at the source.

Independence

WalletWiseEU is supported by advertising and may contain affiliate links. These never decide what we write or recommend, and we do not accept payment to change an article. Affiliate links are explained in our Terms of Service.
